The Most Stunning Wedding Hairstyles for Short and Long Hair

One of the biggest decisions every bride has to make for her big day is choosing the perfect wedding hair style. As a bride, your hair style is extremely important, as your wedding day is probably the one day in your life where you are in every photo! Whether you're planning a spring or summer wedding this year, you'll want to look great and have hair that will look great with your beautiful dress.

Many brides choose to have their hair done in a salon, but there's no reason why you can't create a simple but elegant look in the comfort of your own home. That said, don't leave it until your wedding day - choose the style that you want in plenty of time, and try it out first to ensure that you love it!

OK, I know what you're thinking - how can I decide how to wear my hair, and how do I know I'm making the right decision? Read on for some insight...

HOW TO IDENTIFY THE PERFECT HAIRSTYLE FOR YOU:

Generally speaking, it is important to choose a style that will hold through the wedding and reception so you can look your best in every picture. As a starting point to figure out your ideal hairstyle, consider this checklist for your wedding day:-

Will you wear it up or down, half up / half down, curled or straight?
Will the ceremony be inside or outside? Will it be hot, humid, windy or cold?
What overall look do you want to go for - simple or sophisticated?
What lengths would you consider? Short, medium length or long on your wedding day?
Are you growing your hair to create a special formal, romantic or elegant look?
Do you want to add any hair accessories to your look?

The first thing you need to do is decide if you want your hairstyle to be completely up, down, or half of both. By making this decision, you'll be able to narrow down the vast array of long hair styles that are available.
You also want to consider your hair texture. If you have bone straight hair that never holds a curl, why bother fussing with it for your wedding? Alternatively, if you have natural curls, you can always have it blown out straight; but if you're getting married on a humid or rainy day, you could end up with quite a fuzzy display.
Another important consideration is the venue. For example, if you're planning a beach wedding, it will likely be windy, so you'll want a tight updo that won't get ruffled in the breeze. Similarly, if it'll be an outdoor ceremony on a hot and humid day, you might want to go with an updo in order to keep the hair off your neck, as this will help you keep cooler. On the other hand, if you're having a super sophisticated indoor wedding and you have long flowing locks that you want to show off, then any number of long styles will fit the bill.

To get you started on the right foot, below are some suggestions and tips for both short and long hair.

TIPS FOR SHORTER HAIR:

When choosing a short wedding hairstyle, consider whether your budget can include having a great cut with a top stylist. Shorter styles can look great, but will benefit from a good cut. If you prefer that updo look, then using hair pieces to give the appearance of longer hair can help you achieve the desired look.
In many cases, a simple style with pretty accessories can look lovely. You can choose from a few pins, flowers (fresh or silk), a tiara, a garland or many other accessory items that you can find in a bridal shop. Importantly, be sure that any flowers used in your hair are an appropriate match to the flowers used in your bridal bouquet.

TIPS FOR LONG HAIR UPDOS:

One of my favorite wedding hairstyles for women with long hair is a long hair updo - there is nothing more romantic and practical in my opinion. Why wouldn't you want to show off that gorgeous neck in your elegant dress? Updos are often the preferred choice for those wearing fuller dresses. An elaborate dress and hair that is full and down can often be just a little too much.

A long haired updo can be loose with soft ringlets left out or it can be sleek and neat. There is an abundance of hair accessories available to make any updo look extra glamorous. Plus, you won't have to worry about your hair going limp as you're dancing the night away.

TIPS FOR LONG FLOWING STYLES:

Many women prefer long flowing styles to show off their beautiful locks. Down hair styles for long hair are very versatile since you can wear it this way for the ceremony and then put it up for the reception if you choose.

Although in the past it seemed as though you had to at least pull the sides back and wear a barrette or even a headband, this is not the case anymore. Many brides are choosing to wear their hair all down, straight or curly or even pulled back behind one ear with a flower. As long as your hair looks healthy and shiny, you can wear it down in any manner you choose.

TIPS FOR HALF UP HALF DOWN STYLES:

If you can't decide between an updo and a down-do, you might opt for a half up half down style. These long hair styles are extremely popular because you get the best of both worlds. You have the long flowing locks in the back and sometimes also on the sides, while the front is pulled up or back. This type of wedding hair style is ideal for the person who wants to wear her hair down but knows she will get irritated with it constantly being in her face.

Half updo styles for long hair also give you the option to wear a special hair accessory like a flower, tiara or an heirloom barrette. Then, if you decide you want to pull the rest of your hair up at your reception, just pull it back in a ponytail or a bun.
